Welcome to the memorial page for

Thomas Vincent Callahan Jr.

November 23, 1949 ~ January 13, 2018 (age 68)

Thomas Vincent Callahan Jr., 68, of Lake Zurich, formerly of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on January 13, 2018. He was born on November 23, 1949 in Louisville, Kentucky to Thomas V. and Anne (nee Holland) Callahan.

Tom’s exuberance for life spilled over to all who knew him. He had the gift to make people that he loved and those whom he just met feel unique and special. He was very welcoming and more than extended himself to others. All you have to do is look at his picture and it will bring you comfort and a smile to your face.  His calming spirit will be with us always.

Tom was a 1967 graduate of St. Xavier High School in Louisville Kentucky, and a  graduate from Western Kentucky University where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.  He was retired from Brown Forman Corporation, where he enjoyed a very successful career, which included numerous distinguished awards for his performance in sales and marketing.

He was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Illinois Restaurant Association, and a Master Wine Judge. He was a sports fan, a horse racing enthusiast, and he loved his Classic Rock. And through all this, he was an exceptional son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Tom will be deeply missed by his loving and devoted wife of 44 years, Rita (nee Huber); children, Thomas Vincent Callahan III (Stephanie), Matthew Russell Callahan (Asal); granddaughter, Lyla Annabelle Callahan; sisters, Mary Newton Graas (David), Anne Callahan French (Lawrence), mother-in-law, Mary Louise Huber. Many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and lifetime friends also survive.

Visitation will be held, Sunday, January 21, 2018 from 3 PM until 8 PM at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 941 S. Old Rand Rd., Lake Zurich, IL. Funeral mass will be Monday, January 22, at 11 AM at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 33 S. Buesching Rd., Lake Zurich, where family will receive friends from 10 AM until time of mass.

Services will also be held on Wednesday, January 24, from 10 AM until 1 PM at Ratterman’s Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Rd., Louisville, Kentucky. Interment to follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Louisville, Kentucky.
