Gary Lee Nagel

August 7, 1938 — March 3, 2024

Davenport Crystal Lake

Gary Nagel, 85, passed away on March 3, 2024. Born in Rochester, PA, on August 7, 1938, Gary was a proud resident of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, for 52 years before retiring to the Woodstock area.

He married Judy McAllister on July 17, 1965, in Baden, PA, and together they raised their son, Mark Nagel (Rose). Gary was a loving grandfather to Marcus and Bryan Nagel and a caring uncle to nieces Heather McAllister, Melissa McAllister, Stacie (Matt) Kostelnik, Sharyn (Drew) Muir, and Jennifer Olzinger. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Mary McAllister, great-nephew James Kostelnik, brothers Jeffrey and Lynn Nagel, and his lifelong best friend of nearly 80 years, William “Bill” Olzinger. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Ellsworth & Margaret Nagel, and brother-in-law, James McAllister.

Gary's career spanned over several decades, beginning with 25 years as a steelworker at Armco Steel (Ambridge, PA) and Babcock & Wilcox Steel (Beaver Falls, PA). He later served as a warehouse manager for McCarls Inc (New Brighton, PA) and worked full-time at Auto Paint Specialties (Beaver Falls) from age 63 until he was 79. A devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Gary also enjoyed cheering on the Blackhawk Cougars football and basketball teams for nearly 50 years.

A longtime member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Beaver Falls, Gary was an active participant in his community. He had a passion for attending car shows, car cruises, and drag races both locally and across the country throughout his life. He took great pride in restoring, working on, and driving his beloved 1971 Pontiac Lemans Sport. As an active member of the Northern Illinois Streeters car club and the Pontiac-Oakland Club International, Gary enjoyed taking vacations to Florida and Hilton Head, SC, for many years.

Gary was an avid league bowler at Kingston Lanes in Woodstock, IL, and enjoyed attending Crystal Lake Central High School football games, lacrosse games, and track meets to watch his grandsons compete. He was known for solving the world's problems with a group of "grumpy old men" most mornings or afternoons at the local McDonald's in Chippewa Twp, PA, and was always ready to help friends, family, neighbors, or anyone else in need.
