Contemporary Cremation


A contemporary cremation is where the cremation takes place followed by a memorial visitation and/or service. With a contemporary cremation there is no formal public viewing of the body and the date of the memorial visitation/service is flexible. Private family viewing or witnessing of cremation is available (see below for more information). 

Packages A & B  will include the Professional Services of our a funeral directors and staff which consists of the following:  Personnel available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to respond to your call to transfer the deceased from place of death to our funeral home; Care of the remains and Worry Free Cremation at Davenport Crematory; Arrangement conference to complete, secure and record the various documents; death certificate,  Illinois County cremation permit (Cook County is an additional $50), etc. to finalize the funeral arrangements that you have selected; Initial notification of death to Social Security; Preparing obituaries


Memorial Service at Davenport Funeral Home


  • Professional Services of funeral director and staff
  • Coordination with church, clergy, cemetery and military as necessary
  • Use of facilities, staff, and equipment for a memorial service at the funeral home
  • Quality memorial package (visitors register book, memorial folders or prayer cards, and thank you cards)
  • Personalized DVD
  • Choice of urn (selections listed below) If you choose not to select one of our package urns a $100 credit will be given
  • Cremation receptacle  of your choice that your loved one will rest in to be cremated

Packages A & B Additional Information 

  • Services that are held Monday - Friday will be given a  $300 discount.
  • A visitation the night before the Memorial Service please add $700.
  • Any cremation service that includes a procession to a local cemetery will incur a charge of $350.
  • If you choose not to select one of our package urns a $100 credit will be given.
Charges for Items Not Included in Packages

The packages do not include cash-advance items, such as death certificates, sales tax, newspaper notice fees, flowers, cemetery charges, etc., or the following:

  • Chicago Transfers- $200
  • Rush Service Requested (24 Hours)- $125
  • Plus-Size Cremation- $250
  • Mailing of Cremated Remains- $150
  • Removal of Pacemaker and/or Defibrillator- $75
  • Graveside Service and/or Procession to Local Cemetery- $350
Private family farewell and/or witnessing of cremation (limited to 8 people). Includes washing, grooming, and other appropriate preparation of the body.  Please note that this service is available at the sole discretion of the funeral director and is not available in all cases (e.g. trauma, autopsy, cases of disease or extended delay in viewing from the time of death). Embalming may be required. Viewing will be conducted at the funeral home in a First Step Cremation Casket. 

Private Farewell only or Witnessing of Cremation only during regular business hours – add to alternative container price - $695
Private Farewell and Witnessing of Cremation during regular business hours – add to alternative container price - $895
For a Private Farewell and /or Witnessing after 5 p.m. add an additional – $200

We want this to be a positive experience for your family and we will do everything possible to make that happen. If the private family viewing evolves into a public visitation, you will be charged according to our General Price List.


Veteran Benefits and Requirements 

A veteran’s family will receive a flag and a solid wood flag case. We will also assist a veteran’s family with the following:  coordinating military honors, arranging burial in a national cemetery, ordering Presidential Memorial Certificates, and completing the application for a grave marker from the Veterans Administration.

Families must provide DD-214 discharge papers.

Veteran benefits are available for eligible veterans who have been discharged or separated from active duty under conditions other than dishonorable, and have completed the required period of service. U.S. Armed Forces members who die on active duty are also eligible, as are spouses and dependent children of eligible living and deceased veterans, and of current and deceased armed forces members.  Families must provide DD-214 discharge papers.
