Bruce T. Dockery was born November 21, 1937, in Elgin IL and passed away on November 23, 2018, at the age of 81 in Tucson AZ. He was a lifelong resident of Barrington IL, graduated from Barrington High School in 1955, and attended Illinois Wesleyan University where he met his wife, Sarah.
He started in the family moving business, ADCO Van & Storage, in the late 1950’s, and was joined by his brother Ron in the late 1960’s. He retired after 40 years in 1998.
Having a strong sense of community, Bruce was active in numerous community groups including serving as a president of the Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce. He was a lifelong member and active supporter of the Community Church of Barrington.
Bruce was known for his dry sense of humor and enjoyed meeting new people, making friends wherever he went. He liked to keep busy and his many activities over the years included tennis, golf, fishing and pickleball, as well as poker and cribbage. He was a classic car enthusiast and was easily recognizable around town in his 1956 Chevy Nomad.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sarah, his children Brian (Lisa) Dockery and Marla (Patrick LaPlante) Dockery, and his grandchildren Kyle and Eva Dockery. He was preceded in death by his parents, Olga and Thomas, and his brother Ronald.
The visitation will be from 5-8 pm Friday, January 4, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St, Barrington IL. The funeral will be at 10:30 am Saturday, January 5, at Community Church of Barrington, 407 S. Grove Ave, Barrington IL.
