Jerelyn Schumacher, 55, of Crystal Lake, Illinois was born to Robert (deceased June, 2014) and Karen (nee Stancer) Wodill on June 12, 1962 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. On the 6th of May at 9:28 a.m., having finished the short hard race, Jeri was welcomed into the awesome presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ.
Being academically inclined, Jeri graduated valedictorian from her high school class, earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Disorders from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, and a Master’s Degree in Audiology from the University of Wisconsin Steven’s Point. Jeri practiced audiology for a total of 24 years, much of it spent in her own audiology practice in McHenry County, before retiring in 2010 to focus on spending more time with her family.
Even with these notable achievements, however, if asked to name her greatest accomplishment Jeri would give the four names of her children, Philip, Rebecca, Kara, and Marcus. Her love and dedication to her children was immeasurable. Found among her belongings was a book containing a note that summed up her definition of greatness and the most important lesson she desired to impart on her children as their mother. It read as follows, “True greatness is a passionate love for Christ that shows itself in an unquenchable love and care for others.”
The only thing that could rival Jeri’s love for her children was her love for her husband and best friend, Peter Schumacher. They were married on the 1st of June 1985 and enjoyed 32 years together. Jeri was once asked how one knows who they are supposed to marry. Her reply was simple and profound. “Don’t ask yourself the question, can I live with this person for the rest of my life; instead, ask yourself can I live without this person for the rest of my life?’” In 32 years Pete and Jeri were rarely seen apart choosing to spend every available hour with one another even up to the very end.
Her favorite hobbies were long walks with her husband Pete, hours spent on the phone with her mother Karen, “girly dirly days” with her two daughters Rebecca and Kara, long talks with her son Philip, and spending true quality time with her youngest son Marcus.
She will be dearly missed by her husband, children, her mother, daughter in law Stephanie (Philip) Schumacher, granddaughter Evelyn (Philip) Schumacher, soon to be son in law Mitch (Rebecca) Hannula and her siblings: Jay (Christine) Wodill, Jim (Terri) Wodill, and Joy (Erick) Herdt.
