Adrian “Adie” Gartner, 81, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026. Adie was born on April 11, 1944, in Evanston, Illinois, to Walter and Alles Dowey. She grew up in Skokie, Illinois, the middle child in a close-knit family. Her older sister, Pat, and younger brother, Jim, were her constant companions, and the three of them spent much of their childhood together, forming a lifelong bond.
Adie attended St. Peter's Elementary School and later St. Scholastica High School. She furthered her education at DePaul University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in teaching. She began her career as a teacher, but after a short time discovered that her strengths and interests led her in a different direction. She transitioned into a career in sales, where she was able to connect with people, which helped her succeed.
Adie had many interests and passions throughout her life. She loved staying active and made walking part of her daily routine, often walking about three miles a day. She also enjoyed playing golf and spending time outdoors. Traveling was another great joy in her life, especially trips to Europe and Alaska, where she appreciated both the beauty and adventure those places offered.
Adie will be deeply missed by her loving daughter, Julie (Bob) Miller; grandchildren, Jack and Grace Miller; brother, Jim (Joy) Dowey; and by many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy Hines and her sister, Pat Dowey.
Memorial visitation will be Thursday, April 2, 2026 from 4 PM until the celebration of life service at 7:30 PM at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Old Rand Rd., Lake Zurich, IL 60047. Inurnment will be held privately by the family.
