Alex and Loretta Saputa

Alex Saputa, born March 10, 1930, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, passed away on September 1, 2024. Just weeks earlier, on July 10, 2024, his beloved wife, Loretta, passed away. She was born July 5, 1932, in Chicago, Illinois. They were married on May 10, 1952, and shared 72 years of life side by side.

Alex proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Sierra and was honorably discharged on his birthday in 1952 as an Electrician’s Mate Third Class. He was honored to be part of the Honor Flight and wore his veteran hats with pride everywhere he went. He worked for Durkee Foods and later Coca-Cola, where he became plant superintendent in maintenance. After retiring, he took a job at Bonnie Dundee Golf Course simply because he loved the game so much. Golf was one of his true passions. He was kind, gentle, and always enjoyed caring for his yard.

Loretta worked at Sears and was the heart of their home. She was meticulous, strong-willed, and full of care. She was an excellent cook and baker, and her handmade crafts were so beautiful that anyone who saw them would say she could have sold them. She loved a good grocery store trip and firmly believed in stocking up so she would never run out of anything. Her home was always spotless, and she took great pride in her prized rose garden. She especially loved traveling, and she and Alex shared many wonderful trips to Jamaica over the years.

Survivors include their children, Joyce (Jim) Czerniak and Glenn (Laurie) Saputa; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Gloria) Czerniak, Kristy Czerniak, Candice (the late Jason) Learman, Ben Learman, Dominic (Nathalie) Saputa, Danielle (Michael) Stanciu, and Anthony Saputa; great-grandchildren, Sonora, Aiden, Amber (Payton), Ben (Sydney), and Allie; and great-great-grandchildren, Nicky and Andy.

A joint visitation celebrating their lives will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025, beginning at 2 p.m. with a brief service at 3 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Avenue, Crystal Lake.
