Arlene Frances Black (née Gross), 89, passed away on October 22, 2026. She was born on August 23, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, to Patrick Dennis and Frances Bridget (née Carroll) Gross.
Above all else, Arlene cherished her family. Her beloved husband of 66 years, Ronald F. Black, and the family they built together were the heart of her life. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother, and an adored great-grandmother, affectionately known as “GG.” Nothing meant more to her than being surrounded by those she loved and bringing her family together.
Arlene expressed her love through the care she put into making every occasion special. She meticulously planned birthday celebrations and holiday gatherings, thoughtfully tending to the details that made each person feel remembered, celebrated, and loved. These gatherings were more than traditions; they were an expression of her deep devotion to her family and a gift of memories they will always treasure.
Her faith was also an important part of her life as she and Ronald attended Resurrection Catholic Church in Woodstock. Through all the seasons of her life, her greatest joy remained her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her love will live on in the family she held so dear.
Arlene is lovingly remembered by her children, Kathleen (Steven) Wolter of Crystal Lake, Joan (John) Pusatera of Algonquin, and Ronald J. Black of Los Angeles, California; her grandchildren, Stephanie (the late Darren) LaFond, Kimberly (Timothy) Badger, Jonathan (Devyn) Wolter, Anthony (Betsy) Pusatera, Joseph (Natsuko) Pusatera, and Maria Pusatera; and her great-grandchildren, Arlo and Otto LaFond, Olivine and Stone Badger, Antonetta and Katelynn Pusatera, Hana Pusatera and an expected baby boy Pusatera, and Gabriella and Carmelo Marmolejos. She is also survived by her brother, Jack (Judy) Gross.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ronald F. Black; her parents, Patrick and Frances Gross; and her brother, Patrick Gross.
