Arlene Leona Humphrey

Arlene L. Humphrey, 94, of Crystal Lake, died peacefully on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at The Grand Victorian of Crystal Lake.

Arlene was born in Chicago on June 12, 1931, to parents Joseph and Frieda (nee Zessin) Sutter.

On New Year’s Eve, 1956, she met the love of her life, James Humphrey, on a blind date. They were married on April 19, 1958, and celebrated 65 years of marriage before his death in 2023.

Together they raised their family in Chicago and later moved to Park Ridge. Arlene loved baking and hosting parties. She was very active in her churches throughout the years and was a diehard Chicago Cubs fan.

Arlene is survived by her children, Karen (Douglas) Puenner and David (Patricia Tlapek) Humphrey, her grandchildren, Ashley Puenner, Andrew (Samantha) Humphrey, Christopher Puenner, and Jennifer (Sasha) Collins, her great-grandchildren, Jace, Declan, and Rory, and many nieces and nephews.

Arlene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Humphrey, her sister, Joan Wiese, and her grandson, Nicholas Puenner

Visitation will be on Friday, April 17, 2026, from 10 a.m. to time of Funeral at 12 noon, all at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Avenue, Crystal Lake, IL 60014, with a luncheon to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Arlene’s name can be made to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 932 S McHenry Avenue, Crystal Lake, IL 60014.
