Arlene Mae Kopsell

Arlene Mae Kopsell (née Rudsinski) was born Dec 6, 1934 at Sherman Hospital in Elgin, IL. She passed away peacefully May 9, 2024, in hospice care, at the age of 89.

Arlene grew up in Barrington, IL on a farm and went to a one room schoolhouse. She moved to the big city of Crystal Lake in 1946. Her parents, Elmer Rudsinski and Mabel Bushe Rudsinski, helped her enjoy their family farm. She met her husband Donald Kopsell while she attended Crystal Lake Community High School, and they were married in 1953.

A 55-year happy marriage brought two children, Sheila Kopsell Halasz and Roger Kopsell. Arlene was active at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Crystal Lake and enjoyed many years of service. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crafting as she "made something out of nothing"- a favorite phrase of hers, cooking, baking, gardening, working with and helping people, selling jewelry at Montgomery Wards, spending time at The Villages (their Florida vacation home), and golfing. She proudly got a hole-in-one once. However, her grandchildren, Lindsey Halasz Shaffer and Dean Halasz always were her true pride and joy. Lindsey and her husband, Kevin Shaffer, of Wauconda, gave her two great grandsons, Marshall and Judson whom she got to spend a lot of time with as she lived with her daughter, Sheila, and son-in-law, Peter Halasz, in Crystal Lake.

Besides the family previously mentioned, she leaves a sister, Linda Dawson of Crystal Lake, nieces, nephews, their children and friends who loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brother, Ralph Rudsinski of Delavan, WI.

A visitation will be held at Davenport Funeral Home in Crystal Lake on May 18th from 1:00 until the time of a service at 3:00. Final burial will be at Windridge Memorial Park in Cary, with a private ceremony. Donations may be made in her honor to myveryownblanket.org or to the nationalmssociety.org in honor of her son Roger of Tacoma, WA.

When asked,  “What do you want people to know about you?", Arlene said, "Tell them I love them." There is not a more profound way to leave this earth. We encourage people to act accordingly.
