Barbara Jean Yellin

Barbara J. Yellin of Barrington passed away Monday, August 18, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Devoted wife of the late Benjamin A. Yellin, dear mother of Steven Yellin (Patti), Sharon Kuhl (Rick), Pamela Hanley (Michael), and Paula Larsen (Eric).

Cherished grandmother of Jennifer Wuebbles (Kevin), Lisa Hogue (Mike), Valerie Thompson (Nick), Benjamin Yellin (Lindsay), Ryan Kuhl (Hilary), Jamie Taylor (John), Kyle Hanley (Allison), Jaclyn Hanley, Grace Larsen, and Jake Larsen.

Loving great-grandmother of Colton, Abigail, Jillian, Charlie, Ellie, Emmett, Jack, Olivia, Emilia, Wyatt, Payton, Bridger, Mackenzie, Will, Josh, Griffin, Riley, and Reagan.

Born and raised in Evanston, Barbara attended Good Council High School. Shortly after graduation she met the love of her life, Ben. In 1952 they began their 59-year journey together.

Fulfilling her dream of raising a family, Barbara and Ben built a home in Wheeling where they immediately became active members of the community. As a founding parishioner of Saint Joseph the Worker Church, she was a strong force in the women’s club and contributed her time and talents at the school.

A move to Barrington followed in 1978, where Barbara continued her commitment to family as well as helping to grow the family business, Contract Builders Hardware. Barbara always loved a family get together. She took joy in planning holiday gatherings, family vacations and even a last-minute weeknight dinner was turned into a special occasion.

Barbara loved flower arranging, a spirited game of dominoes, or some high-stakes Rummy Royal. Later in life she partook in many games of Sorry! to determine the world-champion for the night.

Family was her job, hobby, and passion and she was always an enthusiastic cheerleader for her children and grandchildren.

Barbara is proceeded in death by her parents Carl and Helen Meier, mother-in-law Christine Yellin, sister Phyllis (Peters), and brothers-in-law Leroy Peters and Joseph Yellin.

She is survived by her loving brother Carl Meier (Reiko) and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. until the funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at St. Anne Catholic Church, 120 Ela Street, Barrington, IL.
