Benjamin Peter Gaulke of Cary. The funeral service for Benjamin Peter Gaulke, 90, will be held at 11:00a.m. Saturday July 8th, at the Cary United Methodist Church, 500 N. First St., Cary, IL. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday July 7th, at the funeral home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Road), Barrington.
Born March 25, 1933, in Barrington, IL, he passed away on Friday June 23 after several month of illness. Most of Benjamin’s early years were spent in Barrington, before the family moved to Cary. Ben graduated from Crystal Lake Community (now Central) High School in 1953. He attended business school in Chicago and worked more than 40 years at the Barrington Post Office. Ben was a wonderful and loving father and grandfather, which included helping to raise his grandson, Aidan. He was also an avid sports fan, especially with regards to the Chicago Cubs, and he enjoyed history. Ben was active in the Cary United Methodist Church, even participating in his 30th, CROP walk in October 2022. Over the years, he raised more than $51,000 for the CROP walk. He married Dolores Ruth (nee Holtzee) and they married on June 1, 1957.
Ben is survived by children Dan (Kathleen) Bates of Crystal Lake and Randal (Laurie MacDonnell) Gaulke of Winchester, VA; grandchildren, Aidan Bates and Graham Gaulke; three sisters, Donna (Tootie) Wilson, Carol Gordon, Judy Randle and sister-in-law, Marian Gaulke.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers (Robert, Ralph, Rollin and Richard) and two sisters (Mary and Cissie).
