Bernie Hellgeth, 81, of Crystal Lake, IL, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2024. He was born on June 20, 1942, in Chicago, IL, to Bernard J. and Florence Hellgeth.

Bernie bravely served his country as a proud member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War, demonstrating courage and valor in the face of adversity.

Beyond his military service, Bernie was an active and esteemed member of his community. In 1992, he assumed the role of President of the Dawnbreakers Rotary Club, where his passion for service and commitment to making a difference shone brightly. He dedicated his time and efforts to various charitable initiatives, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of those he touched.

In the early 1990s, Bernie also served as President of the Crystal Lake Central Booster Club, where his leadership and enthusiasm inspired countless individuals.

Outside of his professional and community endeavors, Bernie found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He had a passion for dancing, doing puzzles, listening to music, and watching old black-and-white movie classics. Bernie found solace and camaraderie among friends and family. However, one of his greatest joys came from spending time with his beloved family, whom he cherished above all else. Bernie's role as a Grandpa and Papa brought him immeasurable happiness, and he treasured every moment shared with his grandchildren.

Bernie will be remembered for his compassion, fun-loving humor, gentle heart, and his unconditional love for his family.

Bernie is survived by his loving wife, Alice; daughters, Bev (John) Kuvshinikov and Laura (Paul Barker) Hellgeth; and grandchildren, Andrei, Alekssandra, Gabriel, and Sena. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister.
