Betty H. Captain

Betty Hayden Captain passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Lake Barrington Woods Assisted Living Facility. She was born on January 31, 1931, in Callao, Virginia to her parents Curtis Arther Hayden and Hester Harrison Hayden. She graduated from high school and went on to work as a bank teller in Richmond, Virginia where she met her loving husband, William H. Captain; the two married in 1951.

Betty and Bill transferred around to several States along the east coast, Betty making each house a home. They eventually settled and made a forever home in Barrington, Illinois in the early 1970’s. The couple was among the first homeowners in the Fox Point subdivision where Betty resided for over 50 years. Betty was very sociable and loved attending events in the neighborhood. She was a member of many women’s clubs in the area, and she loved playing tennis & golf. Above all, she loved being a mother to her beloved son, Reed. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Betty is survived by her grandchildren, Luke (Vanessa) Captain and Lauren (Nate) Ritchie; as well as her daughter-in-law, Megan Captain. She was preceded in death by her dear husband, William H. Captain; son, W. Reed Captain; parents; and brothers, John Wayne Hayden and Curtis Reed Hayden.

A visitation will be held on Monday, July 13, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home 149 W. Main Street in Barrington, IL 60010. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Betty’s name to JourneyCare Hospice.
