Bruce Edward Rampage, a devoted husband, father, and respected healthcare leader, passed away on October 2, 2026, at his home in Long Grove, Illinois. He was 79 years old.
Born on March 5, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, Bruce grew up to become a man defined by purpose, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved and served. He met the love of his life, Patricia, as a young man, and she remained his sweetheart for 63 years and his cherished wife for just shy of 53. Together they built a life rich in love, tradition, and shared adventure.
Bruce proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a medic, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-5) before receiving an honorable discharge. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts from St. Xavier College and a Master's degree in Hospital Administration from Northwestern University, laying the foundation for a distinguished career in healthcare leadership. His professional journey carried him through many respected institutions across the Midwest, beginning at the University of Chicago Hospital and later serving as Vice President at suburban Illinois hospitals. From there, he served as a Chief Executive Officer of hospital systems in Wisconsin, Indiana, and Michigan.
Amid his demanding professional climb, Bruce found time to teach Business Administration at Purdue University Northwest and Lake Forest Graduate School of Management, and he served as a mentor to countless colleagues and friends. Bruce also lent his expertise to corporate governance, oversight, and committee responsibilities. Professional, hardworking, and visionary, he was known for fostering strong relationships with physicians and as well as the community. Stoic in manner yet soft of heart, he took great pride in being a steady and guiding figure for his family.
Away from his work, Bruce was a true outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting, downhill skiing, and foraging as a self-styled mushroom whisperer – passions he passed on to his children and grandchildren. A former football player and lifelong fan, he cheered on the Chicago Bears and later the Green Bay Packers but was always ready to root for a team on any given Sunday. He delighted in barbecuing on warm summer days and watching his favorite movies, among them The Great Outdoors, Christmas Vacation, A Christmas Story, ¡Three Amigos!, and Top Gun. He treasured the family tradition of heading "Up North" each summer and, in retirement, came to love and retire in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and later Florida. He never missed his annual trips with Pat and their closest lifelong friends, whether to Key West, on cruises, or coast to coast adventures.
Bruce is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Rampage (Mucha); his children Joshua and Tessa (Tom), and his cherished grandchildren, Garrett and Corinne who brought him great joy throughout his life.
A man of faith, Bruce found comfort and strength in his Christian beliefs, and his family takes solace in the promise of eternal life and the hope of reunion in God's loving care.
Bruce leaves behind a legacy of professional success, a family proud of the Rampage name, and a deep love of the outdoors. He will be missed by those who knew him well and those who knew him only in passing.
In lieu of a service, the family asks that you remember Bruce privately. Also, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
