Carol Lynn LaCasse

Carol Lynn LaCasse (nee Pertel), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away unexpectedly on September 16th, 2026, at the age of 81. She was born on November 23, 1944.

Carol lived her life with energy, curiosity and an adventurous spirit. She was an accomplished athlete - competing in many triathlons and marathons, always embracing a challenge and pushing herself to do more. Her love of adventure extended far beyond athletics as she also loved to travel the world with her family and friends.

Carol was an avid equestrian and lover of animals. She devoted many hours to care for her horse, Eddie and enjoyed many walks with her dogs. She also found great joy in gardening and took enormous pride in the beautiful garden she created in her backyard. It was a true reflection of her love for the outdoors. She loved music, and dancing and always took advantage of that when she could. As a proud lifelong liberal (her self appointed title) she also spent much of her time advocating for environmental conservation, as well as local politics.

Carol loved to cook and entertain. Having family and friends over for the holidays was one of her greatest joys. She loved cook books and trying new recipes, even if the pine nuts were a little too toasted, or the rolls didn't turn out just as planned.

What mattered most was having the people she loved together, enjoying good food, conversation and laughter.

She was a very proud grandmother of her 4 grandsons: Jack and Tyler (Matt and Wendy) and Arlo and Grey (Mark and Kate). She never missed the chance to play guys or take them to museums or the forest preserve. She loved cooking with them and sharing her love for good, fresh food. She loved watching them play baseball and football and ski jump. She enjoyed watching them fish and sail. She loved being a part of their lives.

Carol's passion for life, tenacious will and devotion to her family and many friends made her one of a kind. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the many lives she touched through her life's journey.

Funeral Mass will be Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. with a visitation beginning at 9 a.m. all at St. Anne Catholic Church, 120 Ela Street, Barrington, IL 60010.

Following Mass, a Celebration of Carol's Life will be held at Moretti's from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. 128 Wool Street, Barrington, IL 60010.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Carol's name can be made to Citizens for Conservation or PAWS Chicago.
