Carolyn A. Husemoller, nee Schweigert, 88 of Barrington, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on May 23,2025. She was born on May 13, 1937 in Minneapolis, Minn. to Raymond and Marie Schweigert.
Carolyn was a proud alumna of St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts and met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Husemoller. Carolyn was a longtime member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Barrington and a snowbird member at Desert Foothills Lutheran Church in Scottsdale, Ariz. A talented artist and advocate for the arts, Carolyn was a visionary founder the Art in the Barn, a popular annual event that started 50 years ago, providing seed money for the founding of Good Shepherd Hospital. She was co-founder of Kaleidoscope Gallery and School of Art in the 1980s.
Her love for beauty and service extended to active involvement in numerous organizations, including the Good Shepherd Ladies’ Auxiliary, the Association for Children with Learning Disabilities (ACLD), the Barrington Area Arts Council, the Little Garden Club of Barrington, and Chicago-Read Mental Health Center, among others. Carolyn’s legacy is one of faith, artistry, healing, and unwavering dedication to causes in the community close to her heart.
Carolyn is survived by her children: Candy (Jon Siess) Husemoller, Becky (Mark) Kay, David (Peggy Wingo) Husemoller, and Paul (Gina) Husemoller; brother, Jim (Connie) Schweigert and sister Cathy (Bob) Rieckenberg; and 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, brother, John, and Joann Bushnell.
Memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, June 8, 2025 from 2pm until the memorial service at 4pm at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 720 Dundee Ave., Barrington, Ill. A private inurnment will take place later at Windridge Memorial Park, Cary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leann Carpenter Art Apprentice Fund at St. Olaf College or to the Alzheimer’s Association to assist those suffering with dementia.
