Carolyn Jeanne Moeller Newman, 73, of Barrington, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home on January 16, 2026, in Lake Villa, surrounded by her family, who loved her very much. She was born on January 27, 1952 to Carol and Robert Moeller in Chicago.
She taught at Barrington High School (BHS), and at Station Middle School, from 1974 to 2006, going on to travel far and wide as much as possible with her husband, Ted. As a public educator for thirty-two years, she taught students ranging from seventh graders to high school seniors, in many cases teaching children of her former students, siblings of students, and generations of friends, families and neighbors. Many of you who might read these words.
Carolyn loved Barrington, where she met her husband, Ted during their sophomore year of high school at BHS. Educated at Northern Illinois University, and completing her Master’s degree at Northwestern University, she and Ted raised three children in Barrington.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Carol Moeller. She is survived by Ted and their three children, Laura Coughlin (Christopher), Emily Spranger (Kenneth), Carl Newman (Sarah Grusin), and her six grandchildren, Kylie, Addie, Aurora, Fiona, Mira and August. She is also survived by her two sisters, Diane Moeller and Barbara Koenig (Stan) and many nieces and nephews, along with several cousins and an extended family. She loved many and was loved by them. She will be remembered fondly by each of us.
On Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 12 PM, a graveside internment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, 610 S. Dundee Avenue, Barrington, IL. Following the burial, a celebration of Carolyn’s life will take place at 1 PM at Community Church of Barrington, 407 South Grove Avenue, Barrington, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the National Health Law Program (NHeLP), the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), or the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC).
