Carolyn D. Strong, 86, of Huntley passed away peacefully on Friday, October 14, 2022 at JourneyCare in Barrington.  She was born on September 27, 1936 in Canandaigua, NY to Nelson F. and Julia Stapleton Dimmick.

Carolyn grew up in Geneva, NY, and graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing in Syracuse, NY in 1957. Most of her nursing was in caring for geriatric patients which she truly loved.

On October 26, 1957, Carolyn married John D. “Jack” Strong. They moved from Syracuse, NY to Decatur, IL in 1974.

Following breast cancer surgery in 1987, Carolyn became very active in the Decatur Race for the Cure.  She was also a 29-year survivor of a serious abdominal cancer surgery.  Carolyn enjoyed school and received an Associate degree in Marketing from Richland Community College in 1991.

Upon moving to Huntley in 2000, Carolyn continued to enjoy many craft projects.  She was fond of quilting, counted cross-stitch and scrapbooking.  She always traveled with her knitting and tried to make a pair of mittens each week for various Christmas mitten trees.  Carolyn loved to travel and made a project out of visiting National Parks, Major League Baseball Parks and even spent a night in every state in the Union.  Carolyn was a die-hard Cubs fan.

She was preceded in death by her son, John D. Strong, Jr. in June 2022.

Survivors include her husband of almost 65 years, Jack; daughter, Suzanne (Robert) Pedigo of Batavia, IL; grandchildren, Kayleigh and Hannah Pedigo and Ryan, Emily and Heidi Strong; and great grandchildren, Elliot and William Strong. She is further survived by her sister, Sara (John) Bennett and their children.

A private service will be held.   Memorials in Carolyn’s name can be made out to First Congregational UCC, 3465 N. MacArthur Rd., Decatur, IL 62526.
