Cathy (Monday) Ferguson

Cathy Ann Ferguson, 71, of Crystal Lake, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024. She was born in Chicago on August 28, 1952, to the late David and Evelyn Monday and grew up in Wauconda, graduating with the class of 1970. Cathy married Ralph Ferguson on August 22, 1982, in Mundelein.

Cathy earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Northern Illinois University and dedicated 35 years working as a family therapist at Northwest Community Hospital. She was deeply committed to her community, volunteering for various causes throughout her life. Cathy was actively involved with Communities Against Gangs and served on the Crystal Lake City Council for an impressive 24 years, stepping down in April 2023. During her time on the City Council, Cathy played a crucial role in advocating for the development of the Three Oaks Recreation Area. She was also a dedicated member of the McHenry County Mental Health Board. Cathy was known for her passionate support of small businesses and her extensive involvement in preschool and youth programs at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.

Cathy’s life was defined by her love and care for others. She was a shining example of love in action, always protective and deeply interested in the lives and well-being of her grandchildren. Cathy had a special place in her heart for children in need, opening her heart to those who required extra love and attention. She was a fierce advocate for the rights of children and families, leaving a lasting impact on all those she encountered.
In her spare time, Cathy enjoyed reading, gardening, and engaging in various arts and crafts, including jewelry making and cross stitch.

Cathy is survived by her beloved husband, Ralph; her sons, David (Cheri) and Matthew (Valerie); her grandchildren, Luke, Zachary, Maxwell, and Evelynn; her sisters, Sharon Monday (Jack Paxton) and Kim Royster (Tom Tucker); and her nieces, Taylor and Reinal.
