Christopher John “Chris” Plazak, 65, of Cary passed away peacefully June 5, 2026 surrounded by his family and his faith. Born August 11, 1960 in Springfield, Massachusetts, to Cyril and Wilma Plazak, Chris grew up in Palatine, where he attended St. Theresa Elementary and Palatine High School. At the age of 18, Chris met Teri, the love of his life. They would share 47 years of love and devotion to one another.
Continuing his love of knowledge, Chris would attend Marquette University, where he had a passion for basketball and would spend most nights performing with his band, “Captain Budget and the Loan Sharks”. He would graduate from Marquette and start his career in Finance at Citi Bank before leaving to pursue his passion of opening the Coffee Station in Cary, alongside his wife. Chris enjoyed being a part of the community, creating events such as Cary Cruise Night, the Merry Cary Parade, and hosting storytime events for children. Chris, Teri, and their eldest son, John, would go on to open Breaking Bread Catering and Deli in Cary and Crystal Lake. Chris was loved by his customers because of his cheerful smile, quick wit, and love of pajama pants.
Though he endured many health struggles, he continued to work at their restaurant with his family as much as he could and his faith never wavered. There was no greater love for Chris than spending time with his children, John, Stephen, and Mary. He found comfort in time with his family, playing games, laughing, and watching the Kansas City Chiefs. Nothing brought him greater joy than watching his children grow up and seeing how successful they have become. There are no words to describe his pride in John, Stephen, and Mary and his daughter-in-laws Dana and Bri.
Chris often talked about how blessed he was with the most amazing parents, siblings, wife, children, in-laws, and nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his wife, Teri Stompanato; his children John (Bri), Stephen (Dana), and Mary. Chris is also survived by his mother, Wilma Plazak and his siblings Corey Plazak (Barbara), Corinne Butts (Bruce), Carey Plazak, and Craig Plazak (Kelly), as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cyril Plazak, who he looked forward to being reunited with.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 28, from 12:00-3:30 p.m. at Davenport Funeral Home in Crystal Lake. Please come in casual attire to celebrate a great man who will be greatly missed by so many.
