Clarence Gantt

A Celebration of Life Service for Clarence L. Gantt, M.D., 82, will be held at 12 noon Saturday, at the Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Road), Barrington, where the family will be receiving friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be private. Born Jan. 25, 1928, in Asheville, N.C., he passed away Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. He attended Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C. and graduated from the Bowman Gray Medical School in Winston- Salem. Dr. Gantt spent the majority of his career in academic medicine. He was an associate professor at the University of Chicago and a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He was also a vice president of the Abbott Pharmaceutical Research Department. Prior to his retirement he spent 15 years in private practice in Joliet, specializing in nephrology and endocrinology. He held two patents and wrote a book of poetry. Survivors include his wife, Beverly (nee Norfolk), whom he married Nov. 11, 1979, in Barrington; four children, Eric (Lynn) Gantt of Ely, Minn., Diana (Jason) Eisdorfer of Portland, Ore., Alan (Julie) Woods of Downers Grove and Brian (Robin) Gantt of Portland, Ore.; grandchildren, Olive and Sam Eisdorfer, Max and Ben Gantt, Adam, Sarah, Anna and William Woods; and sisters-in-law, Flossie Gantt and Edith Breaker. He was preceded in death by his brother, Fred Gantt; and sister, Kathy Gantt. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 215 W.
