Vernon Hills (formerly of Barrington Hills), Illinois,Services for Clifford Daniel Cherry, 88, of Vernon Hills, formerly of Barrington Hills, will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Road), Barrington, where the family will be receiving friends from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Reader Burnham Casterline will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington. Born February 5, 1921 in Minneapolis, MN, he passed away December 9, 2009 in Libertyville. Mr. Cherry was a decorated naval aviator in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Following the war, he attended the University of Minnesota and graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration. During his successful business career he was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Greyhound Corp., Walter E. Heller & Co., and Marsh & McLennan Co. His public service included being President of the Union League Club of Chicago. He also served as first reader at the Christian Science Church in Barrington. His favorite hobbies were fishing and gardening. Mr. Cherry is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Ruby Evelyn (nee Norman); children, Dan, Darlene, Barbara (Hayden Daniel) and Linda Cherry; grandchildren, Matt (Megan) Buchanan Cherry and Katie Cherry; great-grandchildren Grainne Buchanan and Avery Buchanan Cherry; sister, June (George) Clark; and sisters-in-law Jean Howe and LaVerne Cherry. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and Herbert Cherry. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Church of Christ, Scientist of Barrington, IL, 421 E.
