Cyril John Finnegan, age 84, passed away on Monday, October 10, 2022.
Cyril was born on December 12, 1937, in Co. Dublin, Ireland. Cyril made the journey to Chicago, IL in 1957, where he started his career in the printing industry. When he retired, he began his true passion in life, which was to spread the message of the Catholic Church. He lived his faith by example and was not shy in sharing the teachings of his beloved faith to many, even to strangers he’d randomly met. He changed many lives with his intercession and grace. Cyril lived a life of devout prayer and respected life with the utmost fervor for pro-life.
Cyril was a prison minister in more than one state and would frequently drive across the country to visit with each facility. When he was unable to make those long drives, he still maintained communication through hundreds of letters exchanged with many prisoners, whose lives he touched. Cyril was a holy and humble man with a strong devotion to the Virgin Mary and the holy rosary. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Cyril is survived by his sisters, Elizabeth Byrne, Jean Crews and Drena Koty; nephew John Byrne; and niece, Patricia Byrne (Jay Darden).
Preceded in death by his mother, Isabella; father; John; niece; Felicia Koty; and brother-in-law Patrick Byrne.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at St. Peter Catholic Church 27551 Volo Village Rd, Volo, IL. Burial at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Cemetery in Palatine, IL immediately following mass.
