It is with heavy hearts that the family of D. Kurt Humm announces his passing on Wednesday December 11th, 2024, at the age of 66. Kurt leaves behind his wife Christi (nee Cutlip) married on May 21st, 1989, at First United Methodist Church in Arlington Heights; his children Kyli (Drew) Burge, Taylor (Chris) Van Dyke, and Mackenzi (Joe) Gellenbeck; his grandchildren, Oliver, Maverick, Kinsley, Waverly, and Riley; his mother, Phyllis Cody, of Crystal Lake, IL; his uncle, Stanley (Lisa) Humm of Earlville IL; and his brother, Kent Humm. He also leaves behind his loving mother-in-law, Dotti Cutlip, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Kurt was born to fly. At SIU, Kurt helped his flying team win two consecutive national championship titles. Kurt was chosen to join the Illinois Air National Guard’s 183rd Tactical Fighter squad, where he was overjoyed to fly F-4 Ds and F-16s. Kurt was a true patriot.
In 1987, Kurt was hired at American Airlines, where he met his wife, Christi, an American Airlines flight attendant. His career culminated as a McDonnell Douglas Super 80 Captain. Kurt enjoyed woodworking. He built an RV-12 aircraft. He was a member of First Church. He was an honored member of the QB’s - Chicago Hanger. We will miss his light in our lives, our one-of-a-kind, Kurt.
Kurt’s celebration of life will take place Saturday, December 21st, at 12 p.m., at First Church of Crystal Lake. 236 W. Crystal Lake Ave, Crystal Lake. A light lunch will follow the service in Wesley Hall.
