Darleen Volant

Darleen Volant, 66, of Crystal Lake, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2026. She was born February 23, 1960, in Oak Park, Illinois, the only child of the late Richard and Marion (Czarny) Janowick.

Darleen worked for the McHenry County Health Department and was a longtime member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Crystal Lake. Strong, selfless and compassionate, Darleen had a big heart and a natural way of caring for others. She was nurturing, devoted and supportive, always putting the people she loved before herself. Her faith and her family were at the center of her life, and she gave both her love and her time generously.

Above all, Darleen was devoted to her family. She shared more than 20 years with her partner, Brett, and took great pride in her daughters and granddaughters. She played an especially important role in the life of her granddaughter Nina, whom she raised and loved as her own. Darleen could be strong when strength was needed, comforting when someone needed support, and funny when a little laughter could make things better.

Her love will continue through the family she raised, the people she cared for and the many lives she touched along the way. 

Darleen is survived by her partner of over 20 years, Brett Bougher; her daughters, Michelle Volant and Lynette Volant; and her granddaughters, Nina De Alba and Vanessa Cabrera.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Marion Janowick.

A funeral Mass for Darleen will be held at 11am, Saturday, September 5th, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1023 McHenry Ave, Crystal Lake. 
A Celebration of Life gathering will follow from 12pm-4pm at the Lake in the Hills American Legion, 1101 Algonquin Rd, Lake in the Hills.
