David Edmund Byrnes, age 84, of Crystal Lake, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 28, 2024, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Born in Chicago on February 13, 1940, David was one of twelve children of Thomas and Virginia (Howell) Byrnes, raised with a deep sense of love, faith, and commitment to family and community.

A proud US Army veteran, David’s love for his country was lifelong and unwavering. Known for his warmth, wisdom, and steadfast devotion, David brought joy and comfort to everyone he met. His deep faith was central to his life, guiding him as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan, with whom he shared more than six decades of marriage, and by their children, Amy (Edward) Liu, David (Debra) Byrnes, Michael (Emi) Byrnes, Timothy Byrnes, Mary (Joshua) Kahn, and Kevin (Angela) Byrnes. David’s cherished grandchildren—Benjamin, Trevor, Amelia, Natalie, Matthew, Spencer, Jack, William, Vivian, Hudson, Damen, Samantha, Allegra, Abrianna, Steven Joseph, Charlotte, and Penelope—will carry forward his legacy of love and laughter. David is also survived by his siblings, Virginia “Nina” Foster, Peggy Haley, Daniel “Tony” Byrnes, Thomas Byrnes, Mary Jo Byrnes, Gael Byrnes, Jamie Byrnes, Monica Byrnes, and Brendan Byrnes, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
