David Ray Schroeder

David Ray Schroeder, 82, of Crystal Lake, IL, born on July 11, 1941 in Cary, IL to Charles and Evelyn Schroeder, peacefully passed away on September 24, 2023, following a brief illness. He was the eldest of 11 siblings.

On April 4, 1964, he married Jan Gilkison of Crystal Lake. They had 2 children, Lisa and Ron. Dave was loved by many and will be missed. He had a strong work ethic and would help anyone. He was well respected by his family, friends, and business associates. Dave was interested in local history and loved sharing stories of Crystal Lake and McHenry County from when he was young. He enjoyed taking road trips to explore the area’s back roads. He had a great mechanical sense about him and could help fix just about anything. He was a member at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Gilberts.

Dave found joy in his work, taking pride in problem solving and doing things the right way. He was employed at Yazel Cartage and Boncosky Trucking before joining Geske and Sons. He managed their asphalt plant for several decades, eventually retiring at the age of 79. He was a member of the Teamsters 301 and the Operating Engineers Local 150.

He is survived by his wife, Jan; his daughter, Lisa (Keith) Boyd; his son, Ron (Jeanne) Schroeder and his granddaughter, Emily Schroeder. He is also survived by his siblings: Ben Schroeder, Merlyn (Ken) Emricson, Beverly Schaefer, Jeff (Theresa) Schroeder, Sarah (Jacob) Anderson, Pat (George) Edmund, Aaron (Liz) Schroeder, Nora (Alex) McIntire, and Adrian (Susan) Schroeder, and many nieces and nephews.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Edith Machamer and his cousin, Bill Pichen.

Services will be on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Rte. 176), Crystal Lake, IL 60014. Memorial service will start at 12 Noon, followed by visitation until 5 PM.
