Delores Katherine (nee Thomas) Kelly passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on June 9, 2025 at the age of 94, after living a long and beautiful life. Delores was born in Chicago, IL on August 6, 1930, to the late Dorothy (nee Huegel) & Frank Thomas.

Delores grew up in Chicago and graduated from Carl Schurz High School in 1948. In June 1952 she married John Kelly and together they raised five children in Barrington, Illinois.

She is survived by her loving children, Susan (the late Neal) Ranstead, Thomas (Teri) Kelly, Katherine (David) Murphy, her beloved grandchildren, Kevin (Morgan) Spry, Nicholas (Samantha) Spry, Charles (Bridget) Spry, Jessica Ranstead, Thomas (Anna) Kelly, Tiffany (Logan) Swalls and Tara (Alexander) Breytenbach. She was the adored Gigi of her eight great grandchildren, Bodhi and Ashton Spry, Mackenzie and Benjamin Kelly, Luke and Millie Swalls, Calvin and Knox Breytenbach.

In addition to her parents, Delores was preceded in death by her husband John, her loving, son James Kelly, and cherished daughter Judith Spry, as well as her brother Frank Thomas and son-in-law Neal Ranstead.

Delores was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and Gigi. She enjoyed bowling, golf and spending time with friends and family. She had a strong Catholic faith and was a member of St Anne’s Catholic Church in Barrington for nearly 60 years.

A Mass and celebration of Delores’s life will be held later this summer.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Delores to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, or to your own favorite charity.
