Dennis J. Howard, 77, of Freeport, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly on April 30, 2026. He was born on February 27, 1949 in Chicago to the late William and Rosann Howard.
Dennis was a fun loving, kind, and caring man who would do anything for anyone. He was a hard worker and worked up until his sudden death. He was deeply loved by all who knew him. In high school, Dennis was a member of the dive team and later shared his love of swimming by teaching his daughter and grandchildren how to swim.
After retiring from his career as a newspaper manager, Dennis chose to return to school to become a phlebotomist. At the time of his passing, he was working as an associate at Walmart in Freeport, where he truly cherished his Walmart family.
Dennis loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, fishing, hiking, and spending time in nature. He was also an amazing cook who was always happy to lend a hand in the kitchen or share his tips on the best way to prepare a meal. Above all, Dennis treasured time with his family, especially his daughter and grandchildren.
Dennis was a devoted fan of the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs. When he was not spending time with family, you could often find him watching football or baseball and cheering on his favorite teams.
Dennis is survived by his daughter Jodie Ruden (Kevin Soderholm), grandchildren Alexis Ruden, Shawn Ruden, Hailey Ruden, Jeffery Zielinski (Elizabeth), AJ Soderholm (Becca), great grand daughter, Lennyx Zielinski, his siblings Patricia Paschke (Robert), and William Howard. He is also survived by his Aunt Pat Zotto, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise, his twin brother Kenneth Howard, his sister Connie Howard, and by his grandparents, Magdeline Lala and James Lala and Louise Howard.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2026 from 11 AM until the funeral service at 3 PM at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Rte. 176), Crystal Lake, IL 60014. Burial will be held privately.
