Dennis A. Kohl

May 22, 1952 — April 8, 2023

Davenport Crystal Lake

Dennis Kohl, of Crystal Lake, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at the age of 70 surrounded by his family.

He was born May 22, 1952 in Milwaukee, WI, the son of Richard and Delphine Koltunski.

After graduating with a degree in photography, he started his first job as a sales rep for Eaton & Iwan followed by a new opportunity with Wilson Graphics as a sales associate, this ultimately kickstarted his drive to open his own advertising company in the heart of Chicago, Kohl & Associates.

Early in life, Dennis met Emma Gambalan, his rock and partner in life. They have been together for over 32 years. Dennis was always alongside Emma in any activity, ensuring that no matter the task, that Dennis would always be happy when next to Emma.

After retirement, Dennis went on to spend time with family and enjoying his hobbies. He had a love for wood carving and an artistic eye for unique pieces found while collecting antiques. Dennis always knew what pieces of art and clothing would be just right for his home and family. Those who knew him were always enamored with his ability to find those special pieces with his unique taste. His life after retirement didn’t stop at home, rather much of that time would also be spent volunteering at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Through different ministries such as The Knights of Columbus, Praying Parents and That Man is You, Dennis was able to meet many great individuals at his church to which he looked up to as an example.  Although Dennis did not have a large family, he always considered the people of the parish as extended family guided by faith. In addition to wood carving and volunteering, Dennis would often find himself enjoying a movie at the end of the day alongside his family from his vast collection of movies.

Dennis will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Emma; his beloved son, Anthony (Stephanie Perez) Kohl; and his loving father, Richard.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Delphine; and brother, Anton Koltunski.

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 15, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1023 McHenry Ave, Crystal Lake. Burial will follow at Windridge Memorial Park in Cary.
