Dennis George Masek

Dennis George Masek, 81, passed Sept. 14 at his home, with the love of his family. Dennis was most proud, loved, and cherished his family; children Kim (Gil), Ryan (Heather), Kristy (Rob) and Alison (Jeff) and grandchildren Giorgio (Kim), Dimitri, Niko, Mason, Bobby, Emerson, Colton, Adley and Carter.

Dennis was born in Brookfield, IL to George and Mildred, both deceased. He is survived by his sister Jeanne.

As a child, Dennis loved playing guitar and tennis. After graduating from Syracuse University, he had a long career in the insurance industry, and met friends who encouraged him to start running. He ran 2 ultra marathons, 19 marathons and too many 1/2 marathons, 10ks and 5ks to count.

Dennis married Mary Rose Merkel in 1994, and they enjoyed 31 years of love and friendship. He was embraced by Mary’s large family. They enjoyed traveling to run races, beach vacations, St. Augustine, Jimmy Buffett (he knew the words to all his songs!) and spending time with friends and family, especially seeing his children and grandchildren play sports. He was known to love a good glass of wine.

Dennis said he would like to be remembered as a really good guy.

Visitation will be Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 10 a.m. to time of Memorial Service 11:30 a.m.  all at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 941 S. Old Rand Road, Lake Zurich, IL 60047.
