Dennis Samuel Nester

April 24, 1942 — September 13, 2022

Davenport Barrington

Dennis S. Nester, 80, of Barrington, IL, passed away comfortably surrounded by his wife and three daughters on Tuesday, September 13, 2022. Dennis graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago and became a highly sought after Paper Conservationist. If he wasn't using his steady hand and unmatched talent at work, he was casting a line on Honey Lake at his favorite fishing spots - "The Plateau", "The Dropoff", and "No Man's Land". He was loved by many, and was regularly spoken of as a kind and generous man.

Dennis was a patient and devoted husband to his wife Barbara, married 52 wonderful years. They shared a passion for adventure and were blessed to be able to travel around the world - visiting places such as Africa, Greece, France, New Zealand, Asia, South America and the Caribbean - and enjoyed sharing their travel adventures with their daughters. Dennis and Barbara loved the City of Chicago and enjoyed taking the train downtown frequenting many restaurants, museums and the theater. Most recently, they enjoyed walks in the park, deer watching in the neighborhood, and quiet nights at the movie theater.

Not long ago, Dennis was surrounded by his entire family on a trip to Key West, Florida, where he was able to live out his last days doing what he loved - boating, being on the water, tarpon watching, and being with his four grandchildren: Colin Jordan, Evan Jordan, Jahmel Nester and Kingston Nester.

Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Nester, his three daughters: Katherine Nester and husband Richard Rawlings of Chicago, Illinois; Sheila Jordan and husband Matthew Jordan of Key West, Florida; and Elizabeth Nester and partner Greg Smith of Northern California. He also leaves behind his beloved sister, Janice Pape - who is the best storyteller of many childhood memories about herself and Dennis - that we all cherish to this day; niece Natalie Martin and family; nephew Doug Mayhugh and family; and many cousins that he adored.

Dennis was preceded in death by loving mother Leda Nester and father John Nester, as well as many beloved aunts and uncles.

Dennis' celebration of life will be held at St. Paul United Church of Christ on Sunday, October 9, 2022 at 1pm (401 E Main Street, Barrington, IL. 60010).
