Diane Samec, 84, of Crystal Lake, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Northwestern Hospital with her good friend Barb by her side.
She was born March 17, 1942, in Oak Park, Illinois, the daughter of Albert and Helen (Hrubec) Samec.
Diane grew up in Stickney, IL, and graduated from Morton High School before continuing her education at Hope College. She went on to dedicate more than 35 years to teaching in District 47, where she made many wonderful friendships throughout her career. Diane was loved and respected by her colleagues and students alike and touched countless lives through her years as an educator.
Fiercely independent and private in many ways, she was also outgoing and had an infectious laugh that those who knew her will remember well. Diane was kind, thoughtful, and generous, never forgetting to send a card or postcard for a holiday, special occasion, or while traveling.
Diane was always on the go and loved experiencing new things.
Traveling was one of her greatest joys, and over the years she visited many places throughout the world. She also enjoyed spending time in gardens, arboretums, and zoos. She especially enjoyed going to the theater and Andy’s Restaurant.
Her faith and church community were an important part of her life. Diane attended Willow Creek Community Church, where she joined several groups and formed many close friendships.
Diane loved going out to eat with friends and had a way of making new friends wherever she went. She was an enthusiastic Cubs and Bears fan and loved animals, especially her cats, which she adored throughout the years.
Diane also enjoyed holidays with family and had an extra reason to celebrate every March 17, when her birthday gave her the perfect excuse to fully embrace St. Patrick's Day.
She is survived by her nephew, Michael Samec; grandnieces and grandnephews, Megan (Jack) Beauchamp, Jack Samec, and Erin Samec; and great-grandniece, Elena.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Helen Samec; her brother, Russ Samec; and her sister-in-law, Kay Samec.
No formal services will be held. Diane's family hopes that those who knew and loved her will celebrate her life in their own way, remembering her infectious laugh, her generous spirit, and talking about her many adventures. Diane will be deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to the charity of your choice in honor of Diane.
