Donald Klein

Barrington, Illinois,The visitation for Donald Patick Klein, PhD, 79, is Sunday, December 27, 2009, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, Barrington. The Mass of Christian Burial and burial are private. Born October 15, 1930 in Milwaukee, he passed away unexpectedly, Friday, December 18, 2009, at his home. Mr. Klein was a graduate of Don Bosco High School in Milwaukee, he received his Bachelor?s degree in journalism from Marquette University, and his PhD in Sociology from DePaul University. He worked with Dorothy Day on the Bowry in New York City. After moving to Chicago, he managed the Lake Meadows Housing Project, while teaching at DePaul. Mr. Klein spent the last thirty years of his career as the Executive Director of the Barrington Area Council of Governments. He was very involved with various municipal projects and boards at the city and county levels. He retired in 1999, and went on to pursue his interests in fishing, traveling, gardening, and reading. Survivors include his children William and Katharine Klein, Donald Klein, Jr., and John and Jennifer Beckley; sister, Sr. Marion Klein; his beloved dog, Lucy; and his former wife, Vicki. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mr. Klein?s name may be made to Citizens for Conservation, 459 W.
