Donald Michael Serpe

Donald Serpe, of Cary, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 20, 2026, at the age of 96.

Born in Chicago on July 11, 1930, Donald was the son of the late Santo and Catarina (née Lucchesi) Serpe. He was the beloved husband of the late Dolores LaVerne (née Radtke) Serpe.

Donald dedicated his career to the Graphic Arts Department at United Insurance. Outside of work, he was a devoted Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. He found joy in playing card games, dancing, collecting and wearing hats, and enjoying ice cream—especially banana splits.

Donald was a man of deep faith, and his relationship with God was a guiding force throughout his life. He was a faithful member of his church, attending Mass regularly and finding strength, comfort, and purpose in his Catholic faith. Above all else, Donald cherished his family. Whether traveling together, gathering for holidays, or simply spending an afternoon playing games, the time he shared with his loved ones brought him the greatest happiness.

He was the devoted father of Donna (Michael) Linsner, Daniel (Georgiann) Serpe, and Diane (Michael) Harris. He was the proud grandfather of Lauren (John Paul) Hills, Evan Linsner, Don Serpe, Dominique (Noah) Haffery, Courtney (Kyle) DiMare, Alec (Angelina) St. Laurent, and Jennifer Klimowicz. He was also the loving great-grandfather of John Paul Jr. and Coco Hills; Violet, John Daniel, and Ezra Haffery; and Luca and Milo DiMare.

Donald will be remembered for his kind heart, his steadfast faith, his love of laughter and friendly competition around the card table, his unwavering support of his favorite Chicago teams, and, most importantly, the love he shared with his family.

Memorial mass for Donald will be held on Monday, August 10, 2026 at 10:30 AM at St Peter and Paul Catholic Church 410 N. First Street, Cary, IL 60013.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Cary, Illinois.
