Edgar Navas

It is with deep love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Edgar Humberto Navas, who passed away on April 7, 2026, at the age of 82. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion to family, friendship, hard work, laughter, and love.

Born in Salcedo, Ecuador, Edgar's life was marked by resilience, determination, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved. In 1966, Edgar immigrated to the United States after the closure of his university and in search of new opportunities. He settled in Chicago. Soon after, he was joined by Maria Gonzalez, his childhood sweetheart and the love of his life. Their enduring love story began in childhood and culminated in their marriage in 1970, creating the foundation for a remarkable life together for over 55 years.

Together, they created a warm and loving home centered on family, laughter, and unwavering support for one another. He was a proud and loving father to his daughters, Maria Gonzales (husband David Gonzales) and Carolina Navas, offering them unconditional love, steadfast encouragement, and a constant presence throughout their lives. Edgar always wanted the very best for his girls and never hesitated to sacrifice, help, or show up whenever they needed him.

Nothing brought him greater joy than being "Abuelo" to his cherished granddaughters, Nina, Sophia, and Livy, who were the center of his world. He treasured every moment spent with them, delighted in watching them grow, and took immense pride in the remarkable young women they were becoming.

Edgar was also a man of extraordinary work ethic and pride. He dedicated more than 30 years of service to Hilton, earning the respect of colleagues through his commitment, reliability, and attention to detail. No matter the task, Edgar believed in doing it well and giving it his all.

At home, Edgar was known for his dependable contributions—vacuuming, cooking, and, most importantly, doing the dishes. Considered the original "Grill Guy" by family and friends, Edgar understood that some of life's best moments happened when people were together. His legendary French toast recipe is a tradition that will be passed down for generations to come. Gatherings were often made even sweeter by Edgar's well-known weakness for treats—he never met a pastry or dessert he could resist. Naturally, there was always a cup of coffee nearby to match—a simple pleasure he enjoyed faithfully until his final days.

Edgar had a gift for making people feel welcome and included. He genuinely wanted everyone around him to be having a good time. Known for his quick wit and infectious sense of humor, he was always ready with a joke, a funny story, or a playful remark that could bring laughter to any room. His kindness, warmth, and generosity drew people to him naturally. Edgar also loved to dance. Whether at family celebrations, weddings, or gatherings with friends, he could often be found on the dance floor, enjoying life and creating memories with those he loved.

His friendships were among the greatest treasures of his life. To Edgar, friends were family. Together they celebrated life's joys, weathered its challenges, and helped one another without hesitation. Whether it was lending a hand with a project, helping someone move, or even replacing a roof, Edgar and his friends embodied the meaning of loyalty and community. They would do anything for one another.

Above all, Edgar will be remembered for the love he shared so freely—with his beloved wife Maria, his daughters, grandchildren, extended family, and countless friends. His life was a testament to the power of hard work, laughter, loyalty, and unconditional love.
