Edith Anita Waismann

Edith Anita Waismann (nee Reed), age 102, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2022.

Edith was born in Aleppo, PA. on November 7, 1919.  She had four siblings; three of them lived to 100+ years.  She left home at 17 years of age to attend nursing school. Upon graduation in 1940, she enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Santa Barbara, California. She met her future husband there and when WWII ended she went to Chicago.  She was a nurse in hospitals, private industry and for the federal government for over 30 years.

She was a lover of reading, symphony music, theater, travel, and playing bridge.

Edith is survived by her loving children, Wanda (James) Palka and Wladyslaw (Donna) Waismann; grandchildren, Johanna Grange, Joshua Palka and Kirsten Kuhn; great grandchildren, Olivia and Lola Grange, Jackson Palka, and Addison and Johnny Kuhn.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wladyslaw E. Waismann; son, Jerzy Waismann, and her parents Elmer and Georgia Reed.

A memorial visitation will be held from 10:00am until the start of her memorial mass at 11:00am on September 21, 2022 St. Anne’s Catholic Community, 120 Ela St., Barrington, IL.
