Edmund J. Wanat

Edmund J. Wanat passed away peacefully September 19, 2024 in Barrington, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 2, 1945 in Chicago to Stanley and Harriet Wanat.

Edmund was a graduate of Iowa State University and was a lifelong scholar. He was a Ham radio operator, pilot, general technology enthusiast, and avid reader. He loved astronomy, magic, woodworking, embroidery, cars, 3D printing, and swimming. Edmund was a master of Dad jokes and was a true family man. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1963-1969.

Edmund is survived by his children, Thomas Wanat (Gabriela Montell), Jennifer Wanat (Brian Cerveny), David (Michelle) Wanat, Michael (Tonya) Wanat, and Joseph Wanat (Ashley Garrido); grandchildren, Clark Wanat, Alec Wanat, Claire Cerveny, Luke Cerveny, Ryan Wanat, Nathan Wanat, Chloe Wanat, and Maddy Wanat. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ellen Mary Wanat; and his parents.

Visitation will be from 9am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10am Saturday, September 28 at St. Anne Catholic Church, 120 N. Ela Street, Barrington. Burial will follow at St. James Calvary (Lee) Cemetery, Lee, IL at 1pm.
