Elaine J. Swingle

Elaine J. Swingle, age 97, passed away at her residence in Barrington, IL on May 9, 2025 surrounded by her family.

 Elaine was born on October 31, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois to Hjalmar & Betty Johnson. She graduated from Sullivan High School. She attended and graduated from Purdue University in 1949 with a Bachelor Degree of Home Economics and again in 1977 with a Master Degree of Education.

Elaine taught Home Economics at Homewood-Flossmoor High School. She was passionate about the arts and was an accomplished pianist, watercolor artist, and sculptor.

Elaine was a 10-year resident of Barrington, IL, a 30-year resident of Salem, South Carolina, and 27-year resident of Park Forest and Olympia Fields, Illinois.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Roy Eldredge Swingle; daughter Nancy Ellen; and brother R. William (Marge) Johnson. 
She is survived by sons, David Alan (Julee) of Taylors, SC, and Thomas Eldredge (Marcia) of Wheeling, IL; grandchildren, Erica (Michael) Moriarty, Gary (Britton) Swingle, Laura Swingle, Scott (Melissa) Swingle; great-grandchildren Ania, Kellen, and Ian Moriarty, Guy and Thad Swingle, Cooper Hatcher, Collin and Logan Swingle; as well as niece, Julie (Bob) Burch; and nephews, Douglas (Mary) Johnson and Robert Johnson.
