We honor the life of Emele Jean (Gevercer) Peters (July 30, 1936 - June 18, 2025).
Originally hailing from Michigan, Emele became a longtime resident of Crystal Lake, Illinois with her husband, Don. Over 69 years of marriage, Emele and Don crafted a life filled with love and devotion.
For 88 years, beginning with a childhood spent in her family’s five and dime store, Emele deftly navigated many milestones of life. Through all her years, she was an ardent supporter of a robust family. She is loved and cherished by a bevy of family members, including her husband, sons, brother, sisters-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren and their partners and great grandchildren.
Emele was a devoted friend of many and a staunch advocate for those in need. As an active member of her community, she invested her time and care into both people and animals. Her dedication to organizations such as the McHenry County Citizens for Choice and the McHenry County Crisis Center was a testament to her altruistic spirit. She made others feel personally valued through her generous and conscientious nature. As an avid patron of the arts, Emele’s appreciation for the well-crafted made her an ideal enthusiast for the diverse world of creative expression. Additionally, her enjoyment of all things culinary made her a consummate host, as well as the perfect partner for a restaurant excursion or cooking show experience.
In honor of the classy woman who appreciated the value of a chic haircut, a smart coat and a handwritten note, may we always celebrate you with brimming cups of tea and Barbra Streisand’s Christmas album continually on repeat.
A private burial will occur at Windridge Memorial Park and a future celebration of life will be planned to coincide with her birthdate in July.
