Frances Thompson

Services for Frances "Fran" C. Thompson, nee Buesching, 92, of Barrington, will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 1, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 720 Dundee Avenue, Barrington, where she will lie in state from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. The Reverend Mark Nordman will officiate. Born August 17, 1917 in Lake Zurich, she passed away peacefully February 25, 2010 at her home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington. Fran graduated from Ela Vernon Township High School in Lake Zurich, and was voted Queen of Lake County in 1934. She worked 24 years for Illinois Bell as an operator-supervisor, managing the Barrington office. In addition, she worked for Master Addresser of Chicago, the family business, for two and a half years as the Secretary/ Treasurer. In 1940 she joined St. Matthew Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school for 12 years, was a member of the LWMC and Ladies Guild. She was a past member of the Palatine Junior Women's Club, and Veterans of Foreign War Auxiliary, and was a mainstay at Boloney's Sandwich Shop in Barrington, with her "adopted daughter", owner, Roberta Rapata. Survivors include her children, Don R. (Nancy) Thompson of Barrington and Pamela (Mark) Wilson of Iowa City, Iowa; 6 grandchildren, Stacy (Brad) Thompson Sparesus, Christopher (Karyn) Thompson, Jason Wilson, Alissa (Jason) Hansel, Amy (Neil) Goodrich, and Lindsey (Matt) Brennand; 5 great grandchildren, Alexandra Sparesus, Jack Sparesus, Harley Thompson, Lily Hansel, and Fiona Goodrich; and a sister, Dorothy Buesching Gools. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don L. Thompson, whom she married on June 15, 1940 her daughter-in-law, Mary Bue Thompson, her parents, Herman and Minnie Buesching, and her sister, Ella (Babe) Buesching Engelking. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 720 Dundee Avenue, Barrington, IL 60010 or to Hospice of Northeastern Illinois, 410 S. Hager Ave., Barrington, Il 60010.
