George E. Amann

George Edward Amann, 83, of Schaumburg, IL passed away peacefully on January 5, 2023 at home at Friendship Village in Schaumburg, IL.

He will be sorely missed by his children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends!

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 56 years,  Ellen Jane (Meinhardt) Amann, his sister, Joanne (Amann) Dewbrey, and his brother and sister-in-law Richard and Marie Meinhardt.

He is survived by his children, Lori Amann; Kenneth Amann and wife Sondra (Wade) Amann; Lisa (Amann) Bird and husband Jeffrey Bird; and Robert Amann, and by his longtime companion Arleen Koif.

He is also survived by siblings Richard Amann, Thomas Amann, Mary (Amann) Armstrong, Barbara (Amann) Isaacson, Diane Amann, and Gerard Amann. George will be sadly missed in their weekly Zoom calls.

George believed that family came first, and that was the way he lived.  His devotion to family will live on through his children and his grandchildren: Larisa, Kathryn, and Juliana Chetcuti; Sarah, David, Kevin, and Kira Amann; and Andrew and Sean Bird.

George was born on October 8, 1939 in Brooklyn, New York, to George Francis Amann and Mary (Ryan) Amann. He married Ellen in March of 1962 at Our Lady of Poland Catholic Church in Southampton, New York. Throughout his career he worked for corporations including Canada Dry, Pepsi, and Helene Curtis.  He was a tireless advocate for his son, Robert, and for others with developmental disabilities. He served as the president of Friends of Shapiro (nee KAMR) for many years.

In retirement, George was an active member of the Friendship Village community.  He served on the Council and as head of the fitness committee, and especially enjoyed activities such as presenting at the current events group, going for walks, attending baseball games, and meeting with friends.

A celebration of life will be held from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm on Saturday January 21 at Friendship Village in the Assembly Hall.
Flowers are welcome and may be sent to Friendship Village at 350 West Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg, IL 60194 by Friday January 20.  Memorial contributions may be given to Friends of Shapiro ℅ Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave #176 Crystal Lake, IL 60014.
