George J. Heim

George J. Heim, 92, of Hawthorn Woods, died peacefully in his home on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

George was born in Switzerland almost 93 years ago to parents Franz and Hedwig (nee Lehman) Heim, the youngest of thirteen children.

He met Gertrud through friends and the couple were married in May of 1961. Together they raised their two children, Stephan and Margot, in Switzerland before moving to the United States. George moved to North Brunswick, New Jersey on February 8, 1968, and Gertrud and the children followed one month later. They lived in New Jersey for a year before moving to Glenview, Illinois. They lived there for six years before settling down in Hawthorn Woods.

George loved the outdoors, and enjoyed diving, skiing, and working in the yard. He especially loved to travel with his family and explore the world together. He was a devoted husband and a dedicated father who worked hard to provide for his family. George was especially fond of his grandchildren and loved to play card games with them. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

George is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Gertrud Heim, his children, Stephan (Evelyn) Heim, and Margot (Gregory) Dallstream, his granddaughters, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his twelve siblings.

Funeral Mass will be Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. with a visitation the hour prior, all at St. Francis De Sales, 33 S. Buesching, Lake Zurich, IL 60047.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in George’s name can be made to Doctors without Borders or Smile Train.
