George Andrew Irvine

July 8, 1941 — July 7, 2023

Davenport Lake Zurich

George Andrew Irvine, 81, of Kildeer, Illinois, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2023 at home with his family. Born on July 8, 1941, and never one to be late to a party, George celebrated his 82nd birthday in Heaven.

He was raised in Haverford, Pennsylvania by the late Andrew and Jean Irvine where he grew up loving all things Philly, Penn State and the Jersey Shore. After attending Haverford High School, he graduated from Penn State University and shortly after served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He treasured time with family and friends on beach vacations, playing golf, traveling and tending to his garden. He was deeply committed to his family and faith. Those who knew George call him a “forever friend.”

George is survived by Jane (nee Staudacher) Irvine, his wife of 54 years, and their children: Jennie (Chris) Cornell, Katie (Joe) Falkenberg, Christie (Kevin) Cáceres and grandchildren: Chloe and Kate Cornell; Charlie, Emma and Annie Falkenberg; and Connor, Calvin and Chandler Cáceres. He is also survived by his sister Sandra (late Sid) Young.

George, also known as “Horse, Big G, Pinhead and Pop-Pop,” was a devoted husband, father,  grandfather, in-law, godfather, uncle and friend. He will always be remembered for his larger than life smile and presence that left a lasting impression on everyone he met, and for his contagious and heartfelt laugh, generous spirit and bottomless heart.

With a fierce work ethic, George spent his career in the construction industry, having served as President of Airtite Construction Company. Through Airtite, he became a founder of CRASH, a charitable organization focused on helping those in need. His dedication to helping others extended widely, including time spent at PADS, St. Francis DeSales, House of Hope, and Saint Anne Catholic Church, where he was a Eucharistic Minister and member of the Men’s Club, as well as many other charitable organizations.

Visitation will be held July 16, 2023, from 4-8pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home at 941 S. Old Rand Road, Lake Zurich, IL. A visitation will take place July 17, 2023, from 10am until the time of Mass at 11am at Saint Anne Catholic Church, 120 N. Ela Road, Barrington, IL.
