George Leonard Sundberg, 80 years of age and resident of Crystal Lake, Illinois, passed away on November 21, 2025.
He was born on August 16, 1945, in Oak Park, Illinois, to the late Helen (Nielsen) and Earl Sundberg. On October 21, 1972, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Lynn (nee Kanak). The two were wed in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
George, “Butch”, “Hubby”, “Unc”, “Dad”, (and his most favorite name), “Papa”, was a cherished family man, beloved by his relatives, friends, and neighbors. He was a loyal and staunch supporter of the Chicago Blackhawks, as well as a train enthusiast, a passion he passed down to his grandsons, Owen, Brecken, and Talen. George enjoyed almost every sport, whether he was watching or coaching. He spent many years leading his son and daughter’s baseball and softball teams and grew up participating in several 16-inch softball and bowling leagues. George found great pleasure in fixing cars, getting his hands dirty, and building projects with his children. He also treasured the very special cruise vacations he would take with his wife, Linda, whom he spent 53 beautiful years alongside. The couple raised two children together and Geroge cherished the time he spent with his four handsome grandsons. He spent every moment of his life lending a helping hand to those who needed him. While he will be missed more than words can explain, we know he is wrapping his arms around us all.
George is survived by his loving wife Lynn; children Jasen (Jenn) Sundberg of McHenry, IL, and Katie (Dave) Springborn of Woodstock, IL; grandchildren Colton, Owen, Brecken, and Talen Springborn; and sister Janet Kolbert of San Antonio, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Helen Sundberg, and his sister, Arlene Madary.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025, beginning at 12 p.m., at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake, IL 60014. A Memorial Service will follow at 2:30 p.m.
