Georgene Frances Besse, 92, formerly of Huntley, Illinois, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026. She was born on June 12, 1933, in Congress Park, Illinois, to Mariano and Virginia (Rocca) Guzzardo.
Georgene was a devoted mother who dedicated her life to her two daughters, Ginny and Donna. As a single mother, she exemplified strength, determination, and love. Later in life, she returned to college to earn her degree in accounting — a proud accomplishment that led to a successful career. She worked at the manufacturing company Kelran, where she rose to the position of Vice President. After leaving Kelran, she continued her work in public accounting and, in retirement, enjoyed preparing taxes at H&R Block.
Georgene made her home at Del Webb in Huntley, where she formed many cherished friendships and enthusiastically participated in activities. She had a deep love for her family and took great pride in her Italian heritage.
She is survived by her daughter, Ginny Opsahl (John); her brother, Tony Guzzardo (Pat); her son-in-law, Jeff Prelletz; and her nephew, Michael Guzzardo (Jules). She was a proud and loving grandmother to Andy Prelletz (Laura), Benjamin Opsahl (Valerie), Chris Prelletz (Caitlin), and Kristen Opsahl Walor (John), and great-grandmother to Julianna, Camden, and Nathan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mariano and Virginia Guzzardo; her brother, Mariano Guzzardo Jr.; and her beloved daughter, Donna Marie Prelletz.
A memorial service will be held on March 14, 2026, at Willow Creek Community Church, 67 Algonquin Road, South Barrington, Illinois. Family visitation will take place from 9:00–10:30 a.m., with the service beginning at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to My Destiny Matters or to Alzheimer’s Association.
Georgene’s strength, devotion to her family, and warm spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
