Gerald F. Barry, 91 of Barrington, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2023, with his loving family by his side. He was born in Lowell, MA in a French-Canadian household on May 31, 1931, to the late Raymond and Cecile (nee Alexander) Barry.
Gerald earned his bachelors and masters degrees in chemistry from Lowell Tech (Now known as the University of Massachusetts at Lowell.) He then served in the United States Army for two years during the Korean War. He later earned an MBA from Boston University. During his career he worked for a number of companies including Celanese, Dupont, Brunswick and Philips Petroleum.
Gerald raised his family in Barrington, where he was also an active member of St. Anne Catholic Community as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector, Northern Illinois Civil War Round Table, Barrington Library, YMCA and Good Shepherd Hospital. In 2011 he was inducted into the Senior Citizen Hall of Fame for the Barrington Area Council of Aging and was awarded the State of Illinois House of Representatives Recognition of Service to the Barrington Area Library.
Gerald is survived by his sons, Stephen (Cathy) and David Barry; daughter, Ann (Rob) Garrison and grandchildren, Rebecca, Alec, Danny, Teddy and Sam.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Catherine and his sisters Lorraine Gaudette, Claire Dumais, and Jeannette Burns.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 4 from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral mass at 11 a.m. at Saint Anne Catholic Community Church, 120 Ela St. (Corner of Franklin and Ela Sts.), Barrington. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington.
