Gerald G. Echternach

Gerald G. Echternach "Gerry", age 89, was born on April 2, 1931 to Malcolm and Margaret (nee Borgerson) Echternach and passed away peacefully at home on December 12, 2020.

For over 66 years, Gerald was the beloved husband of the late Dulcie Echternach; devoted father of Steve (Jill) Echternach, Dave (Ingrid) Echternach, Kay (Tom) Kleeman and Lynn (Bill) Phelan; proud grandfather of Christopher (Julie Bierzychudek) Echternach, Stephanie (Russ) Woodyard, Sophie and Ava Echternach, Griff Kleeman, Brian, Dan, Kevin and Sean Phelan; cherished great-grandfather of Evelyn Woodyard.

Gerald worked as a research chemist at American Can Company in Barrington for 38 years and was a long-time member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church. Gerald was an Army veteran, serving in Germany for two years. He loved working on projects around the house, traveling with Dulcie, and spending time with family – documenting both travel and family with thousands of photographs.

A visitation for Gerald will be held on Sunday, December 20, 2020 from 3pm until 5pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 149 West Main Street, Barrington, IL 60010. A funeral service will take place at St. Matthew Lutheran Church 720 Dundee Ave, Barrington, IL the following morning at 11am. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, seating for the funeral service is limited, so please call the office at St. Matthew at 847-382-7002 to reserve your seat.
