Glenn grew up on the south side of Chicago with his parents, Margaret and Louis, and his two brothers, Ron and Ken. He attended Calumet High School from 1956-1959. One of the happiest times of his life was when his father and uncles opened up the “Three Bears Soda Shop” on 69th Street.
He attended Northern Illinois University from 1960-1963 where he became a member of the first new pledge class of the Sigma Pi National Fraternity. His decision to enter the elementary education program was another of the happiest times for Glenn, as that is where he met his one and only true love, Janice, in their final semester of college. He spent most of his teaching career in Palatine IL.. After retiring from teaching, he worked at Health World in Barrington.
Jan, who taught 3rd grade in Barrington, and Glenn got married in 1965 and settled into a small home in the center of Barrington. Their son, Matthew, was born in 1969 and the family moved to their new home in unincorporated Lake County.
Andrew, their second son, was born in 1973 in the same house Jan lives in today. Sadly, Andrew passed away in 2021 from esophageal cancer. Also in 2021, Glenn was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, which finally won the battle.
Glenn devoted much of his adult life to the Barrington Lions Club in order to serve those in need. During his 30+ years in the club, he served in many capacities, including secretary and president, and of course the 4th of July Brat Tent and the eyeglass program for 25 years.
Serving on the vestry at St. Mark's Episcopal Church and other committees including Membership were part of his commitment to his church. Volunteering at JourneyCare Hospice was another of Glenn's projects. He and Jan also delivered Meals on Wheels through the auspices of BACOA. He continued to serve by donating his body to the Illinois Anatomical Gift Association.
Glenn enjoyed reading, both fiction and non-fiction, and following the politics of the day on TV. He loved dining out and going to the theater and being with his closest friends, especially when they had Game Night. He always had a smile for everyone and loved the sense of community in the Barrington area. He passed away peacefully at home with his family.
